With just a few ingredients, you can easily put together your own solid soap. This saves you the waste that comes with a commercial soap. In addition, you can let your creativity run free & maybe even give your loved ones a treat :)
If you make your own bar soap, you can choose the basic ingredients according to your personal taste and create your own creation! Depending on the skin type, your skin has specific needs and therefore needs care that is tailored to it. For example, ingredients such as vegetable oils are suitable for particularly dry and stressed skin. If you feel like it, you can even use ingredients such as poppy seeds or raw sugar to create a peeling effect on your homemade soap.
For self-protection, please wear an apron, gloves, safety goggles and a face mask when making your soap.
What you need to make your solid soap:
- 340 grams of soap base (Soap base comes already boiled and is safe to melt in a double boiler or microwave. It is available from many online stores and some craft or health stores.)
- 20-30 drops of essential oil (e.g. jojoba oil)
- Soap molds (you can also use baking tins)
- Optional: soap coloring or food coloring
Instructions for your homemade solid soap:
Step 1: Melt the soap base in the microwave or over a water bath. Pro-Tip: Cut the soap base small beforehand, it's quicker! If using the microwave, melt the soap base in 20-30 second intervals, best stirring between each interval.
Step 2: Once the soap base has melted, you can add the essential oils. It's best to start with around 20 drops and add more depending on how strong you want the scent to be. If you also want to add color to your soap bar, it is best to add it in the same go. Stir stir stir…Until the three components are uniform and fully combined.
You want a little bit more extra? To give your solid soap a unique look, you can work with dried flowers or fresh plant leaves.
Step 3: Now carefully pour the soap mixture into your soap molds. Try to do it slowly and in a controlled manner so that there are as few air bubbles as possible.
Step 4: Now your patience is required! Let the soap cool & harden completely. This usually takes a few hours, so do it in the evening, then the beautiful result will be waiting for you when you get up :) and you don't have to wait in front of it.
